Petroleum Economist launches inaugural Industry Content Report

Petroleum Economist launches inaugural Industry Content Report

LONDON (Aug. 16, 2019) -- Petroleum Economist, the leading business strategy journal for the global oil and gas industry, has published its first ever report on information and media consumption trends within the energy sector.

The objective of the research project was to understand the ways in which senior executives engage with the industry are evolving. It focused on how changes in the digital landscape are affecting their media habits and how their appetite for different forms of information is developing.

The research was conducted during July 2019. Almost 200 Petroleum Economist subscribers from around the world participated in the project, providing an insight into their preferences for content formats, themes for which they are seeking more information and their social media habits. Respondents were also asked to identify which energy companies, technical/service companies, consultants and law firms are producing the most memorable content.

“Today’s business leaders have both less time and a greater choice in terms of what to read and how to engage with industry content than ever,” says Peter Ramsay, Editor-in-Chief, Petroleum Economist. “At Petroleum Economist we are very proud of our loyal subscriber base and consequently understand the value of consistent, relevant news and analysis. This research will help guide our proposition as we move forward and is a useful benchmark for any information provider in the oil and gas industry. The content produced by 200 different companies is praised, or otherwise, in the report. It provides an indication of how competitive the information landscape continues to be.”

The report identifies the companies that resonate with business leaders most memorably through their marketing and communication efforts. Shell comes out on top for the international oil companies ahead of BP and ExxonMobil. There were mentions for fifty-five different oil companies, with a number of national oil companies scoring highly.

Schlumberger was the most frequently mentioned technical company and Wood Mackenzie and Clifford Chance topped the tables in the consultant and law firm categories respectively.
